Revolutionizing Disease Modeling

We hope to transform preclinical drug development by utilizing patient-derived inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and the latest advances in organoids—cell-derived 3D organotypic models. This approach allows us to study biological processes and drug responses longitudinally, enabling us to drive, monitor, and impact disease progression. Our initial focus is on heart disease.

We correlate changes in phenotypic parameters such as cell organization, cell growth, and cell viability with disease- and therapy-relevant cellular signaling events in iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes. By adapting these approaches to other cell types, we are advancing the discovery of new therapeutic targets.

Predicting Therapeutic Outcomes

We support preclinical drug discovery by creating opportunities to conduct screens in human disease-relevant platforms complementing or replacing animal studies. We explore the effects of drugs in preserving or improving the function and survival of iPSC-derived cells, such as cardiomyocytes, using strategies that could lead to "clinical trials in a dish," even down to the level of individual patients.
